- When planning your layout get the measurements of the track pieces you will be using. It is best to calculate the amout of track pieces you will need for your layout. It will save you money and trips to the store.
- When applying ballast or spraying glue, be wary of your switches. I tend to use an eyedropper around them for applying scenic cement. I also use very little ballast around the switches and make sure they operate before glueing everything down.
- Painting plastic models with acrylic craft paint adds realism. It is cheaper than model paint and it is water clean up.
- Spraying color molded plastic models down with dull coat clear flat finish can make things look more realistic.
- Running a scale model vehicle through a dirt road before gluing it adds tire ruts and more realism to your layout.
